Preparing For “End Of Life”

Not quite as dramatic as it sounds, this is not a forum about Gravitas! But Windows 2007 & 2008 are fast approaching the end of their life as supported operating systems. So what does this mean for business? How are you preparing for it? Is it simply a matter of replacing all the outdated kit? Is that even practical? Or are you looking for other solutions?

This is a great and timely post!. Microsoft ended support for Windows 7 on 14 Jan so no new security fixes will follow, making Windows 7 users particularly vulnerable. The WannaCry ransomware in May 2017 spread through a flaw in the Windows Operating System affecting the unsupported Windows XP and others that had not yet applied the previously issued patch/security fix that would have protected them. Replace Windows 7 and keep up to date with all security patches. Tools available in our Update Your Defenses Toolbox. Upgrade to Windows 10 asap! If that’s not possible then do not use a Windows 7 machine for banking or sensitive accounts - ideally not email either. Check the guidance provided by NCSC here in the UK if you are unable to migrate straight away: Obsolete platforms security guidance

I saw that the FBI issued a warning about WIndows 7 being used for cyber attacks: https://www.bankinfosecurity.com/fbi-warns-serious-risks-posed-by-using-windows-7-a-14771
so I found the warning: Windows_7_End_of_Life_PIN_20200803-002.pdf (640.1 KB)
